This new construction in Avon has a distinct modern style, built around a courtyard that offers views into an old-growth forest. The clients requested a design that married their family’s love and respect of nature with their passion for the architecture style of nearby St. John’s University. They also wanted a space that was warm and intimate, yet open and accommodating.
Fusion created intimate spaces using basic design principles of harmony, scale, balance, proportion, and color. A free-standing wall between the morning room and dining room helps delineate spaces. Dimmable LED lighting installed in the perimeter beams provides ambiance and a sense of intimacy when needed.
The intentional biophilic design is evident in how the kitchen, dining room, and living room are married to the outside courtyard. “It’s such a calming space. It was built so not one area is the focal point,” says Fusion Designed principal Sheree Vincent. “Harmoniously blending the interior space and allowing the homeowners to experience the outdoors—no matter the weather—was a key point to the project.”
