For Kristen Jansen, designer and maker behind Juniper Blue Designs, a simple doodle becomes a pattern, textile, or art piece. Inspired by her Swedish and Norwegian grandparents, the aesthetic behind Jansen’s exclusive small-batch fabrics and handcrafted goods harkens back to the vibrancy and mixed patterns she recalls from her childhood. (Today, one may call the style “modern Scandinavian folk.”) Her clean, simple geometric patterns—printed on wallpaper, accessories, wall art, and more—are perfect for anywhere throughout the home, making her a favorite on Spoonflower, a popular fabric website.
Her work, like her life, reminds us “to be happy without rules,” she says. Furnishing a space with art from Juniper Blue is all about finding joy in the memory and the now; in the art and in the patterns—every single day.
