Life in Lake Como, Italy, inspired the conception of Minnesota-based Alora Ambiance, the creator of America’s first reed diffuser. Sisters Ann and Therese Gibbons, originally from southern Minnesota, founded the company in 2000 after their excursion in Europe, where they discovered a diffuser that, at the time, was not available in the United States. This discovery laid the foundation for their business journey, and in turn, sparked their success in the industry.
When starting the company, they returned to the family farm in Minnesota, where they developed three signature scents, along with their own custom diffuser. Now, 24 years later, the company has expanded to include 15 signature scents available in products including diffusers, candles, hand washes, and room sprays—all of which are produced by hand in St. Paul.
Each Alora scent has its own distinct qualities to enhance experiences at home, but now that we’ve officially reached spring, we asked Therese to share her top picks for the season.
Agrume Reed Diffuser
“I’m loving our Agrume diffuser this month,” she says. “Its fresh citrus notes of orange and grapefruit provide a clean base in my kitchen—perfect for the spring and warm summer months.”
Verde Hand Wash
“While all six of our hand wash fragrances smell amazing, our Verde hand wash is my favorite for spring,” she continues. “The mix of fresh green notes with sweet melon and tonka bean is refreshing—plus, the olive oil keeps my hands soft and moisturized, too!”
Arancia Room Spray
Therese says, “My go-to room spray for spring is Arancia. The scent of bright orange notes mixed with lush gardenia is tough to beat, and I love spritzing it in my kitchen, bathroom, or any other space craving an extra layer of scented joy.”
Mare Reed Diffuser
