For more than two decades, Holly Hunt has built a creative partnership with Christian Astuguevielle, a French artist whose multidisciplinary career has spanned fragrance, fashion, furniture, and sculpture. Now, that partnership enters a new chapter with a collection of surface designs that channels his distinct aesthetic into one-of-a-kind textiles, rugs, and wall coverings.

Comprising six unique designs, the collection translates Astuguevieille’s hand-drawn artworks—ranging from village scenes and ceramics to organic, symbolic forms—into expressive interior accessories. “Christian’s work is distinctly evocative, layered, and rooted in history and imagination,” says Jo Annah Kornak, SVP and executive creative director of Holly Hunt, in a prepared statement. “We saw an opportunity to collaborate on a new collection that would translate the spirit and genius of his artwork into something tactile and alluringly expressive.”

But how does the collection resonate with Midwest designers? According to Lacy Hughes, project manager and designer at Julian Design, the bold patterns make an immediate impression. “I love the more graphic approach to patterning,” she says. “It feels bold and offers a new defining aesthetic.” Known for using fine rugs and art as a foundation for design direction, Hughes says Astuguevieille’s new collection offers exactly the kind of visual impact she looks for.

Elizabeth Cohen, general manager at Studio M Interiors, agrees the collection’s strength lies in its statement-making patterns. Whether used as a focal point or subtle nod to fine art, she sees Astuguevieille’s work elevating a space. She was especially drawn to Les Villages for its classic French feel. “One of the most difficult things to do is level up or modernize a truly distinctive classic pattern like toile,” she says. “The collection feels current, yet chic and artful—the trifecta that designers strive for in their projects.”
