From layouts to color palettes, materials to appliances, and everything else in between, these large, luxurious spaces are designed with intention and craftsmanship, creating spaces built to last.
Sleek and Seamless

Clean lines, a simple neutral palette, and bold light fixtures create a kitchen that is always ready for entertaining in this Rochester, Minnesota home. From design team Rehkamp Larson Architects, Mike Hartert Builders, and KT Designs, the space is defined by a flat ceiling with beams and sits adjacent and open to the living space and light-filled dining room, giving way to views of the front courtyard on one side and the wooded backyard on the other.
Durable European laminate paired with a dark, moody Brazilian quartzite in the kitchen complement the black-stained millwork used throughout the house. A galley pantry, which backs up to the range wall and is accessible on either side, supports the open kitchen with extensive storage, and is flanked by a coffee station and sink.
Quiet Luxury

A long run of windows wraps the corner of this Minneapolis kitchen from Murphy & Co. Design and Prospect Refuge Studio, framing views of the creek beyond and filling the space with natural light throughout the day. An industrial-style hood—crafted from metal and frosted glass—is paired with a traditionally detailed island, giving the room a layered, collected feel. A subtle cove detail traces the perimeter of the ceiling, gently softening the transition between wall and ceiling and adding a quiet sense of refinement. At the center, a two-tiered island provides space for both prep and gathering, making this kitchen the warm and welcoming heart of the home.
A Study in Texture

Inspired by European craftsmanship and made for modern living, this 921-square-foot kitchen designed by Redstone Interiors serves as the heart of a custom home, defined by natural textures and timeless architecture. Hand-laid stone walls, exposed white oak beams, and rift oak cabinetry frame the space, while soapstone and Calacatta Viola marble create contrast and harmony. It’s a space that shows off a stunning interplay of materials, and helped the home win the Best in Show honor at the 2025 Midwest Design Awards.

Ready to Host

The expansive kitchen and adjacent great room by Denali Custom Homes are an entertainer’s dream. Soaring 14-foot ceilings create a sense of openness, while three kitchen islands and a dramatic floor-to-ceiling fireplace establish striking focal points. Just behind the kitchen, a spacious scullery provides all the essentials for seamless hosting and everyday convenience. The connecting screened porch and covered grill deck offer an ideal setting for alfresco dining and a thoughtfully placed kitchen sink with large sliding windows enhances the indoor-outdoor entertaining experience.
Lakeside Living

Spacecrafting
Situated on property that’s been in the homeowner’s family for generations, panoramic views of the lake aren’t in short supply inside this Iowa lake home. The design team, PKA Architecture and Jacobs + Interiors, selected a refined palette of natural textures, including custom rift-cut white oak millwork and cabinetry accented by a dark-stained center island, durable quartzite countertops, and white oak flooring. Shiplap-style wall paneling with dark bronze window frames, custom paneling, and pine beams on the ceiling add warmth and definition.
A pantry with wall ovens, a warming drawer, a second refrigerator and freezer, and a wine fridge provide extra prep space and storage. Easy flow from the main kitchen to a covered outdoor kitchen—which takes its design cues from the interiors with dark steel beams, a white oak paneled ceiling, and custom cabinetry that houses the built-in grill—helps the homeowners make the most of summer evenings.
Custom Storage Solutions

This grand Nisswa home features a large kitchen with custom storage solutions, durable quartz countertops, and integrated appliances for ultimate family living on the lake. Executed by Modern Design Cabinetry and Ruby+Suede, the kitchen’s two 36-inch refrigerators are seamlessly integrated into the cabinetry along with the two built-in dishwasher drawers. A 60-inch range with custom hood allows for proper cooking of meals for the whole family. The large island, which sits at the heart of the kitchen, is over 11 feet long and allows for five stools—perfect for everyday entertaining.
A wall of windows at the sink provides views of the pool deck and lake beyond. Custom inset-style cabinetry with furniture-style toes and applied molding on the cabinet doors elevate this traditional kitchen to the next level.
A Cook’s Paradise

Spacecrafting
Designed for a large family that cooks often, this kitchen from Coco Perry Design, JMAD, and Hendel Homes, is open, functional, and welcoming to many hands at once and features materials designed to age beautifully over time. Concrete-toned quartz countertops give a rustic, lived-in feel while offering the durability and stain resistance needed for daily use. The tile backsplash, inspired by the texture of corrugated metal, adds quiet pattern and a nod to the home’s agrarian roots. Hardware in hand-forged metal was chosen for its integrity and the way it will naturally patina to a soft brass. The custom range hood is both a sculptural element and an architectural anchor, with its scale mirroring the monumental fireplace in the adjacent great room.
Clean and Modern

Scott Amundson
This 578-square-foot contemporary kitchen was thoughtfully designed by Kyle Hunt & Partners, Sharratt Design & Co., and Darsi Floersch Interiors, to achieve a clean, sleek, and modern look. Dark rift red oak cabinets with a custom ebony stain provide a rich, sophisticated contrast that grounds the space, while the large island topped with Winterwood Quartzite and a dropped mitered edge offers generous workspace for cooking and gathering.
A hidden scullery keeps essentials out of sight, maintaining the kitchen’s uncluttered feel. Carefully integrated, subtle lighting adds warmth without overpowering the room, and expansive windows fill the space with natural light throughout the day.
