Even the smallest custom design details can have a big impact in the home. Take the artistic glass window in this historic St. Paul Prairie-style house from David Heide Design Studio. Inspiration for the design came from the client’s favorite flower—a clematis vine that blooms each summer in the garden just outside the walls.
The azure petals are interwoven within a geometric pattern inspired by the architecture of the house and the carefully chosen obscure glass strikes a balance between privacy and natural light. Amber hues in the background of the glass complement the antique Quoizel glass’ light shades, creating a warm glow, both in the day and evening. A red oak sash, finished to match the original main-level woodwork, frames the art glass, ensuring seamless integration with the existing architectural language.
The design element adds vintage charm to the library nook addition at the main stair landing of the home, promising a comforting spot for respite. These thoughtful details and design won David Heide Design Studio second place in the Decorative Glass & Mirror category in the 2025 Midwest Design Awards.
