This expansive closet in a Minneapolis dwelling brings department store amenities into the home, transforming the process of getting ready into a luxe experience. All the homeowners’ clothing collection is on display and at the ready, with shirts and pants hung in built-in niches, and shoes set inside floor-to-ceiling shelves. When designing the his-and-hers closet, Murphy & Co., along with collaborators Prospect Refuge Studio and Streeter Custom Builder, aimed to avoid any visual noise or clutter that’s typical of closets.
At the center of this closet, inside a stunning new build, sits a large island with a green leather countertop and a glass jewelry display niche, where prized possessions can be browsed with ease. A sculptural light hangs above the island, adding a bold design feature to the refined closet. These two complementary features of the closet serve as the centerpieces of the design and make this closet more than just a storage space, earning it a first-place prize in the 2025 Midwest Design Awards Closet category.
Just outside the closet is a spacious vanity with a lengthy mirror, playfully upholstered stool, and low countertops. Large windows inside the closet let ample natural light in, too—perfect for choosing clothing for the day and evaluating an outfit.
