Good design applies to both aesthetics and utility. These laundry rooms prove that, in a space where function is key, good design goes a long way.

Working Smarter
In this Minneapolis home, with all its bedrooms located on the second floor, hauling laundry up and down the stairs was a constant inconvenience for the homeowners. To tackle this problem, Vujovich Design Build converted an underutilized space on the upper floor into a custom laundry room—solving the problem right at its source.
The new upper-floor laundry room features custom-designed cabinetry to enhance the task of doing chores: housing for rolling laundry baskets, space for hanging clothes to air-dry, spacious countertops for folding, and a deep sink for soaking, rinsing, and hand-treating laundry.
Bringing together performance and aesthetics, the room’s charcoal hex tile is easy to clean and stylish alongside dusty-rose cabinetry and moody floral wallcoverings that add a playful gesture to the historic character of the home. The space enhances everyday, practical matters—and looks good doing it.

Chores Meet Charm
With its soft lavender cabinetry, this zen laundry room by Redstone Interiors and Werschay Homes encapsulates the fact that doing chores can be peaceful and calming. Featuring custom inset cabinets with delicate, perforated door panels, every functional detail in the space features both utility and charm.
Vertical nickel gap paneling wraps the walls and ceiling, enveloping the room in a clean, continuous finish. A large apron-front sink sits beneath windows with cafe curtains in embroidered white linen—filtering in just the right amount of natural light. Brass bridge-style fixtures and matching cabinet hardware lend an heirloom feel, complementing the delicate details all throughout the design. Upholstered counter stools and lavender accents balance fashion and function at the built-in table in the center of the room.

Clean Lines
This laundry room by Swanson Homes and Carbon 6 Interiors shows that functional spaces can embody sophisticated contemporary design without sacrificing practicality. As an entry and mudroom, too, the transitional space conveys the home’s contemporary aesthetic while also being preeminently practical.
The space is structural, sculptural, featuring tall, custom white oak cabinetry that creates abundant storage while maintaining the home’s signature material palette of natural wood elements. By contrast, dark floor tiles laid in a geometric pattern are both visually striking and durable, handling the demands of daily family life while maintaining sophistication.
An integrated laundry station features a generous countertop workspace that accommodates laundry tasks, storage, and organization. A full-length wall mirror reflects the contemporary design, along with a floating bench—transforming practical features into aesthetic elements and housing both luxury and livability for an active family.
