10 Showstopping Kitchens to Inspire Your Next Remodel

From charming and quaint to expansive and grand, these 10 kitchens are a feast for the eyes

Modern Classic

After an accidental tub overflow, the homeowners of this historic abode sped up their plans to remodel the kitchen and butler’s pantry. The redesign by Partners 4, Design and Moses Renovation eliminated an unused staircase—optimizing the layout for efficiency, storage, and flow. In the kitchen, a sleek peninsula houses the cooktop and offers seating, while the butler’s pantry provides a stylish space for beverages and small appliances. Custom Poggenpohl cabinetry and Dekton countertops are complemented by green accents and a checkerboard tile floor—resulting in a seamless interplay of old and new.

A Contemporary Twist

In an Excelsior split-entry rambler, this thoughtfully designed kitchen by Revolution Design and Build blends beauty and functionality from corner to corner. Inspired by Sarah Suzanka’s “Not-So-Big-House” philosophy, the space feels both open and intimate. Perhaps the most striking feature is the twisting Modern Forms light fixture, which immediately captures attention with its whimsical design. A unique “tree of life” sliding glass door defines the dinette area, while a dropped slatted ceiling gives the seating space a unique identity and shelters the glass and steel Arhaus kitchen table. Oak, ebony, and white cabinetry are accented by black granite counters and a tapestry-like stone backsplash. Meanwhile, ample seating—from island stools to the oversize RH couch—ensures the kitchen remains inviting for guests.

Hastings Hideaway

This kitchen remodel by Interior Impressions and Custom One Renovation transformed a cramped, outdated space into a modern hub perfect for family gatherings. By reconfiguring the mudroom and laundry area, the design team was able to add a spacious walk-in pantry while merging the kitchen and dining spaces for an open, expansive layout. A new center island offers seating and prep space, while a former desk nook now serves as a stylish beverage bar. Ceiling-height cabinetry, quartz countertops, updated lighting, and brand-new appliances come together to create the ultimate entertainer’s oasis.

Modern Mediterranean Marvel

Overlooking the stunning St. Croix River Valley, this Hartman Homes-crafted kitchen is a chef’s dream. Inspired by Mediterranean architecture, the kitchen features a walnut-trim barrel vault ceiling, as well as arched forms in windows and doorways. Custom walnut cabinetry pairs beautifully with the rich Cambria countertops, while built-in, panel-ready appliances maintain a modern aesthetic. Walnut flooring adds to the warm ambience and connects the kitchen to the conveniently located butler’s pantry—complete with storage, prep space, and a coffee bar.

Industrial Innovation

For this Minneapolis project, a thoughtful remodel by wb builders transformed a previously disjointed home, improving upon a 2007 design that no longer worked for the homeowners’ lifestyle. The removal of three bulky columns and a half wall made way for a sleek steel ceiling beam, which opened the kitchen to the great room and enhanced the overall flow. Modern slab oak cabinetry, distressed ceramic tiles, and industrial metal accents blend contemporary and vintage styles—creating a warm, functional space for cooking, dining, and socializing. Some other notable features include a lowered oak eating area, an oversized integrated refrigerator and freezer, double ovens, and sintered stone countertops.

Historic Mississippi Charmer

Honoring a home’s history is no easy feat, but it is one that Mix Home + Design tackled with grace within this century-old riverside Anoka home. To open the layout and improve circulation, a peninsula was moved, openings were widened, and arches were added to reflect the home’s architectural details. A custom wood island was also installed to create continuity between the original kitchen and early 2000s addition. The space is complete with checkerboard flooring, quartz countertops, vertically stacked subway tiles, and refinished earthy green cabinetry with unlacquered brass hardware.

Orchard Creek Kitchen

This professionally inspired kitchen, designed by Gordon James, Everson Architect, and Nada Bibi Design in collaboration with the homeowner—a restaurant owner—is stunning, sophisticated, and efficient. With matched-grain walnut and rich enamel cabinetry, the kitchen maintains a collected, modern aura. But the standout feature is the breathtaking 16-foot waterfall island, crafted from Super-White Dolomite stone sourced from the Dolomites Mountain range in northern Italy. Equipped with top-tier Wolf, Sub-Zero, and Cove appliances, the kitchen is tailored to the needs of a chef.

European Elegance

From compartmentalized to light-filled and cohesive, this Hopkins kitchen by James McNeal Architecture & Design (JMAD) is an entertainer’s paradise. The project involved reimagining an old sitting room into a spacious kitchen that connected to both the living and dining areas. Oversized windows on all sides of the room invite natural light and provide views of the outdoors. Meanwhile, dark cabinetry adds depth and contrast—drawing the eye in. Hidden features, including integrated refrigerators and a concealed bar, enhance functionality without compromising style.

Southwest Rochester Revival

In Rochester, a 1948 Edwin Lundie-designed home underwent a meticulous kitchen and dining room renovation that also honored the home’s storied past. To transform the dark, cramped layout into something more modern, Albertsson Hansen Architecture and Interior Design and Robert Gill Builder combined the original kitchen and pantry to create a single, expansive kitchen space. A large multipane picture window (which echos Lundie’s signature style) now fills the space with natural light while framing views of the woods outside. Original millwork details—from cabinet door profiles to beaded tongue and groove paneling—were re-created, ensuring the home’s architectural vocabulary remained intact.

Japandi Inspiration

Prior to a remodel by Fox Interiors and Craft Construction, this 1938 St. Paul kitchen had only 6 feet of counter space, an isolated breakfast nook, and a number of circulation concerns. So, the space was reimagined with functionality and flow in mind—blending Scandinavian and Japanese influences for a serene Japandi aesthetic. By removing walls, widening openings, and adding an arched entry to the living room, the kitchen achieved a more open, cohesive feel. Rift-cut white oak cabinetry, a soft green tile backsplash, and white quartz countertops create an earthy, modern vibe. Thoughtful details like a work zone for cooking and pantry wall with storage allow the quaint space to live big.
