Timber & Tulip, an architectural woodworking and custom furniture company, will open a new studio and showroom this July in Northeast Minneapolis in the Northrup King Building. The existing Wayzata showroom closes June 13.

With the move comes a new strategy—rather than a traditional showroom, the new space is designed as an interactive design studio, split into two distinct environments: a front-facing showroom to experience Timber & Tulip’s work, and a private design space where clients and design partners can sit, review materials, and develop pieces together. The goal is to bring people closer to the process, from early concepting through final build.

“We decided to design the new space with a dual-purpose approach after years of working with clients and trade partners,” explains Brianne Rasmussen, founder of Timber & Tulip.
“We find that the design process really has two distinct phases—the inspiration phase and the decision-making phase. A traditional showroom serves the first part well, but the deeper work—sitting down together, pulling materials, talking through a custom piece—needs its own environment.”

How the Space Benefits Design Partners

After years of working alongside Minnesota-based interior designers and architects, Rasmussen feels the new space better reflects and supports how those relationships actually function. Appointment-based meetings, dedicated work areas, and a flexible layout allow for a more focused, collaborative experience.

“That’s what the studio space makes possible,” she continues. “We’ve always believed that the best work happens through real collaboration—and for the designers and architects we work alongside, this space is our commitment to that.”

Northrup King Studio: A Homecoming

Rasmussen first opened her studio in the Northrup King building in 2016, and this next chapter for Timber & Tulip represents a return to her creative roots. Rasmussen has always held the philosophy that the brand’s furniture and custom woodwork installations should feel like functional art, shaped as much by process as outcome. The new location in the heart of the Northeast Arts District plus the reimagined design studio and showroom experience affirm her belief that the value of a Timber & Tulip piece lies not only in how it looks but also in how it is made.

Each piece is designed and made in Minnesota, in partnership with a Minnesota-based fabrication studio, keeping the work hands-on and rooted in the local creative community.
