City Stories & Doors Open Minneapolis

Through Sunday, City Stories, a design and architecture lecture and tour series, is taking place across landmark buildings in the Twin Cities. This weeklong event series presents opportunities to explore the Twin Cities’ unique built environment through the lens of architecture, design, and history. Tickets for remaining panels and tours are available through Minnesota-based historic preservation organization, Rethos (host of Doors Open Minneapolis, held May 9 and 10). Art-A-Whirl

Visit the largest open studio tour in the country to discover artists in every medium. Spanning 50-plus studio buildings, artist collectives, and galleries, representing over 1,000 member-artists, this lively arts festival is one of Minneapolis’ standout spring events. Collect paintings for your walls, ceramic goods for your table, and so much more alongside live music, artist demonstrations, plus food and drink vendors all across the neighborhood, May 15-17. Master Gardener Spring Plant Sale

Hopkins Pavilion will host one of the area’s largest plant sales (featuring 23,000 plants) for one Saturday only. Featuring perennials, annuals, natives, vegetables, herbs, and more, find everything you need for your vegetable garden—and to create an enviable floral landscape. Find a list of available plants at the event website. Their master gardeners will be in attendance to answer all your planting questions. Minneapolis Farmers Market

Farmers market season is officially here. Many of the metro’s markets open this month—including Minnesota’s largest, the Minneapolis Farmers Market. From freshly baked breads and bottled sauces to vegetables galore, this outdoor market is a fun way to fill your pantry. Julia Child: A Recipe for Life

This month is the last chance to see the “Julia Child: A Recipe for Life” exhibit, on view now at the Minnesota History Center. Since the kitchen is so often the heart of the home, learn how one of the most iconic television chefs transformed food culture in America—and how we use our kitchens, through May 31.
