This spring, design lovers in the Twin Cities will have the rare opportunity to celebrate two of the most influential figures in midcentury modernism. From April 23-25, Docomomo US/MN will host a trio of events celebrating the life and work of artists and designers Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman—a husband-and-wife duo whose influence helped define California’s midcentury-modern design movement.

In partnership with The Goldstein Museum of Design and Textile Center, the three-day series will explore the Ackermans’ five decades of innovative artistry. Their range of work—spanning textiles, mosaics, ceramics, woodcarvings, and metalwork—embodies a distinctly modernist style grounded in intricate craftsmanship.

Ackerman-Shaw, who founded Ackerman Modern to preserve her parents’ legacy, will give a presentation followed by a book signing. A celebratory champagne reception at a midcentury home in Prospect Park will round out the evening.
