You never know when a potential client may be watching, and that was certainly the case with how this Sunfish Lake remodel came to be. “We were constructing a remodel down the road, and the homeowners loved what they were seeing,” recalls Nathan Carlson, project developer at Highmark Builders. “They invited us to take a look at their own project.”
The Savage-based builder worked with interior design firm Ruby + Suede on the project—a collaboration Carlson describes as “seamless and inspiring.” Once the client and design-build team came together, one of their main goals for the space was determined: Expand and brighten the kitchen (plus say a permanent farewell to its red walls and honey-colored oak). By marrying the kitchen to the rarely used dining room, extra space emerged for a 12-foot island. Repositioned arched window ushers natural light and can’t-miss views into the kitchen/banquette area. “Creating a banquette at the end of the kitchen frames the space beautifully—in both function and aesthetic,” Carlson says. “It lends itself to quiet morning coffee and late-night libations with friends. It makes the remodeled space feel intentional from the start.”
But what brought the project full circle for Carlson was the homeowners, who are now repeat clients. “They are amazing people,” he says. “We pride our company on building trust.”
