Eskuche Design Group Brings the Outdoors In

At the edge of Rainy Lake, where granite outcrops and tamarack forests frame panoramic views, a family in the International Falls area called on Eskuche Design Group to create a new home. The husband, who hails from Canada, loves the heavy architectural lines of mountain style. Together, however, the couple sought a more refined, modern take with rich tones and a materiality that would blend seamlessly with the site. In collaboration with Studio M Interiors, his team accomplished all that and more.

First, principal Peter Eskuche walked the property—which sits on the edge of a granite cliff—to confirm the positioning of the primary room orientations. Three-dimensional modeling allowed him to site the windows’ elevation for ideal sunset-hour views, bringing the outdoors in with exterior cladding that matches the tamarack bark. The entire 9,803-square-foot home is nothing short of sensational, but Eskuche’s favorite space of them all? The husband’s lower-level office with an adjacent spirits room for sampling blends from local distilleries.

“The clients had a baby girl during the project, and she would crawl all over the plans in meetings,” Eskuche adds. “It was adorable and sweet. To this day, we love receiving pictures of the family having joyous moments in the home and loving it.” Moreover, he says, the client “still calls us her dream team.”
